WAREHOUSE DISTRICT. Locals know to head to the Warehouse District and this laid-back joint when they to catch the Red Wings on the tube. A neighborhood staple since before the early half of the 20th century, Andrews has served up its cold brews and warm pub grub to fathers, their children, and their children's children. During hockey season, shuttles run fans between Andrews and the arena.

PONTIAC. One of Pontiac's preferred watering holes, this family-owned brewpub specializes in European-style ales and lagers. You'll find an upscale scene at Bo's, complete with hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, stainless steel railings, and a neat mezzanine area. Add to the mix a few big screen televisions, and it's easy to see why local business types flock here after work or on weekends to catch the game. Bo's menu, almost as popular as the beer, includes the likes of fajitas, pizzas, chicken potpie, and the standard burgers, salads, and sandwiches.

DOWNTOWN DETROIT. If you're Belgian, in the Motor City, and feeling a little homesick, the eastside's Cadieux Cafe is just the fix you need. Home to the big pots of steaming mussels and one of the area's best repertoires of imported ales, this homey cafe is a local favorite. The interior of the restaurant, like the menu, is distinctly Belgian as well, from the replica of "Manneken Pis" (the name explains the pose!) in the foyer to the long, group-friendly wooden tables that tend to get a little loud as the evening wears on. If you feel like you need to work off that last order of Creole mussels, strike up a little feather bowling in the adjacent alley.

ROYAL OAK. Traditional and contemporary Italian cuisine is enjoyed by young professionals and the young-at-heart of any age at this lively restaurant. Appetizers include grilled portobella mushrooms served with fresh garden vegetables and beef carpaccio. The entrée menu features chicken marsala, Atlantic salmon, and veal scaloppine. D'Amato's also serves excellent pasta, pizza, soups, and salads. Every Tuesday through Saturday groups play jazz, blues and spin music at Goodnite Gracie, D'Amato's adjoining jazz and martini bar.#13;#10;

BLOOMFIELD HILLS. Well-to-do Bloomfield Hills has more than its share of fine restaurants, but Fox & Hounds stands out for several reasons. A community staple for more than 70 years, the Tudor-style establishment offers abundant charm, an elegant main dining room, and a cozy Pastry Den. The pub is more laid-back, and it's a terrific place to wind down at happy hour or to sample great pub fare whenever. In the evenings, live music is standard from Wednesday to Saturday, and dancing is not unheard of. Theme nights and special events are also held frequently.
